Shane Coat of Arms

The Shane Sept (colloquially known as Clan Shane) is a Celtic American family of Gaelic Irish patrilineal descent. Specifically, we are the agnatic descendants of William Sheehan (later Shane) and Hannah Light, of Frederick County, Virginia. William was born in Tralee, County Kerry, Ireland, and sailed across the Atlantic in the 1790s to settle in the New World. His parents were Michael and Ellen (Higgins) Sheehan. If you have the last name of Shane or Sheehan and have reason to believe you’re related to us, please reach out. Clan membership is based on blood and therefore automatic for all those of proven descent: it’s a birthright that can never be taken away. Please click on “Reviving the Clan” to learn more about what it means to be part of this sacred trust and what our next steps are in making our family stronger.

Shane Sept Coat of Arms

(adopted by the Chieftain-Elect, Jonathen Daniel Shane, on March 22, 2023 AD.

The above coat of arms descends from the coat of arms of our parent clan, the Kissane/Cashman Clan. It is shown below (new subdivisions or septs of a larger clan must modify the existing and accepted coat of arms; they rarely if ever radically alter it).

(The surname is shown in the wrong place here; it is supposed to be above the arms, with the clan motto in the space below where it now says Kissane.)
